10 tricks to become a loving, positive person

It's one thing to wax eloquent on positivity, but quite another to be a positive person at heart.

Despite believing to have a positive outlook, we invariably weigh the cons first, consider several times before sparing a compliment, and broadcast only the odds when someone counts on us for advice. What's more, we prefer needless sarcasm for humour, manage a wry smile when something is genuinely funny, and believe deep down that the glass is actually half empty.

We live in denial of our inherent negativity for the most part, and often wonder why the world around is so mean and reckless. At work, we never fail telling our juniors how meeting deadlines can be a tough proposition, and not to think too 'out of the box' to impress the boss. In short, we never tire telling all concerned how tough things can be! Unlike dogs we may not be born eternal optimists, but positivity is something that can be imbibed even if a tad forcibly; such as by trying to tweak our sense of humour, the way we react to a given situation, by being more pleasant and believing others too have a mind, and by smiling each time somebody says 'thank you'.

While positivity is a state of mind, the answer lies in our perspective. Clinical psychologist and lifestyle advisor Dr S.K Sharma shares his ideas on how to be a positive person everyday.

Have the desire: First thing first, to become a positive person one must have a strong desire to be positive. And the desire will come only if you are convinced that becoming a positive person will enhance the quality of life. Positivity is like an aura, and you know you are a positive person when people start trusting you, random people become polite with you, colleagues at work start patronising you, and you start building rapport easily.

Be realistic: Do not try to become a saint. Becoming a positive person does not mean you can never have any negative emotion or encounter any negative situation. It is the overall attitude that matters. Don't get bogged down by failure, and disappointed when your expectations are not met. Mentally, you should always be calculating a way out of difficult situations come what may.

Experiment: Be a keen observer. Use everyday life incidents to see how you can manage them in a more positive manner. These will serve as perfect instances to turn your outlook more positive. For starters, contemplate how you could have better handled a situation by being less hostile and more indulgent. Come up with five ways that could have saved the day, and learn to take things at face value sometimes. Remember, your ability to trust the other person also reflects your genuineness.

Speech and body language: Try and make positive words a part of your daily lingo, and work on your body language in way that you come across as friendly and approachable. Look amused when something is amusing, laugh when something is funny, congratulate when someone's bought something new, and give others a chance to narrate their side of the story. Never think you are the only interesting, knowing one around.

Company: One way to becoming positive is to seek positive company as both positivity and negativity are infectious. If the people you spend most of your time with are grumpy or have a pessimistic standpoint, you'll find yourself mirroring the same emotions before a different set of people inadvertently. In order to inculcate positivity it is imperative that your friend circle is a positive, energetic, and a happy bunch. You'll find yourself carrying the same positivity everywhere you go.

Activities: Do not remain idle and brood. Take up positive activities with others or in isolation. Share a joke, narrate a pleasant incident, take part in sporting activities, go for a run in the evening after work, have healthy sex, and you'll find yourself bubbling with positive energy.

Take it easy: Everyday life is bound to give you shocks. Be prepared to minimise impact and shrug it off. For instance, you may get too hassled everyday while driving to work or trying to park your car. When you accept the fact that certain things cannot be changed, you'll be more at ease with yourself and those around too.

Learn yoga: Says yoga teacher and nutritionist, Abhilasha Kale, "Do pranayam everyday as it lets you focus and meditate. Not only does it secrete happy hormones but also creates a sense of awareness within you." With the help of yogic asanas you control your breathing, and by way of it, control your mind from wandering. Every time you do yoga, you feel a surge of positiveenergy through your body that calms your nerves, soothes your mind, elevates your mood, and not to mention enhances your level of tolerance.

Maintain a diary: Instead of recounting all events of the day, filter out only the positive ones and make a note of them. It could be anything trivial from your bus arriving on time, your mom cooking a delicious breakfast, to remembering to pay the bills on time. When we look for positivity in the little things that make our lives worthwhile, we leave no room for negativity. "Try consciously practising this for 10 days, and at the end of day ten when you read your diary back you'll only have memories of all the good things that happened to you," she asserts.

Say 'thank you': Thank god, thank your parents, friends, and thank yourself for all the hard work you did, for everything you achieved. Says Abhilasha, "Saying thank you frequently makes you humble, and a humble person is seldom cynical."

Try these methods, and you'll be surprised when others notice the change in you.

Fight age with vitamin C

The sunshine vitamin can knock back the years

There is nothing like Vitamin C to fight off ageing, say top dermatologists and it's on top of the popularity charts all over again this season. As one of the most popular ingredients in skin care products today, it is one of the most sought after vitamins around. But if you are not seeing enough results on your face when it is in combination with other anti ageing ingredients in a cream, you could use it on its own, as is sold by pharmaceutical companies today, both as ampules or as an injection. Many dermatologists now even say that Vitamin C can be the 'prime beauty product' in your skincareroutine.

While many noted international skin care giants have long known the benefits of Vitamin C and often offer a cocktail of anti-oxidant ingredients which usually includes Vitamin C, women now want vitamin C to reach them, directly into the skin, either on the face or the body. But experts warn that since an injection is rather extreme, it is important to do so only under medical supervision and only if the kidney and liver organs are completely healthy. And it is always best to remember that what suits one person may not suit someone else, so any jab should be taken only under medical supervision.

An expert dermatologist from a Bangalore hospital explains, "Vitamin C has anti-oxidant properties, protects against sun damage and lightens skin too. It removes all the free radicals which can injure cells. It is one of the best anti-ageing remedies. But for best results it has to be used in conjunction with sunscreen."

And while the jury is still out on the vitamin being injected into the skin, it is widely believed that Vitamin C is a good addition to a skin care routine, but is best to consult a dermatologist first, if you are prone to allergies or other problems.

Best fruits for diabetics

Fructose is a form of sugar present in fruits that has a negative impact on diabetics and overweight individuals.

But you can still enjoy the seasonal mango and grapes provided you consume them in moderation. Doctors encourage diabetics to consume particular fruits that are not only beneficial to the body but also control insulin. We separate this fruit salad and present a list of diabetic friendly fruits.

Red grapefruit
Grapefruit reminds you of an orange or sweetlime, but it is sweet, sour and juicy. Grapefruits are the healthiest option for diabetics. It is advisable to have half a grapefruit a day.

Berries - Cranberries, Raspberries, Blueberries
We love berries; select your favourite berry and rest assured the anti-oxidants will do their work. Besides, berries provide fibers, low carbs and various vitamins. 3/4th cup of berries will do the trick.

Melons
Water melon, muskmelon or honeydew; pick any melon as it is rich in vitamin B and C, as well as beta-carotene, potassium and lycopene. A slice of any of these melons will give you the necessary vitamins you need.

Cherries
Cherries have anti-oxidant properties, plus they are low in carbs and glycemic levels. 12 cherries a day is all you need.

Peaches
It may have a velvet coat, but a peach is a good source for vitamin A and C. It is also low in carbs, rich in potassium and fiber.

Apricot

Low carb, high in fiber, rich in vitamin A, apricots are a great option for diabetics. Include one apricot in your daily diet.

Apple
When you are eating an apple, do not peel it. The skin is rich in anti-oxidants, besides apples are a good source for fiber and vitamin C.

Kiwi
That fuzzy fruit is a power house for potassium, fiber, and vitamin C. It also contains low carbs that are necessary for diabetics. One kiwi will regulate your health.

Pears
Loaded with potassium, fiber and low in carbs, pears should be part of your diet.

Orange

Oranges are known for their vitamin C content. They are also low-carb and contain potassium. Related to grapefruits, oranges are a safe bet for diabetics.

8 Things Which Strengthen The Marriage IN SHA ALLAH:

1) Good Attitude - A Muslim must always have a positive attitude toward life. We say, "Al Hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) for whatever He gives us (or doesn't give us).

2) Help - Our prophet, peace be upon him, stressed the importance of men helping their wives and Allah tells us the importance of women being mates and helpers to their husbands. This is a real "win-win" situation, if we just follow it.

3) Trust - Muslims, men and women are ordered to be trustworthy and follow the example of our prophet, peace be upon him, as the "Trustworthy".

4) Respect - You get respect, when you give respect. This is mandatory for all Muslims toward all people, how much more toward the spouse?

5) Joy - Our prophet, peace be upon him, used to entertain his wife, Ayesha and she used to play and race with him. She said, "I used to out-run him, but then when I got heavy he used to outrun me". He told us to play with our wives.

6) Forgiveness - Clearly, this is one of the most important aspects of Islam. Whoever does not forgive - will not be forgiven. This comes from Allah, Himself. We must learn to forgive each other's mistakes so we won't it against us.

7) Time - Spend time, alone - together. Go for walks. Take a bus ride. Visit a friend or someone who is ill (you get big rewards for that). Fast together on Mondays & Thursdays if you can. Make hajj - this is a great way to get a "new start" on life. Trust me.

8) Worship - connection with Allah through ritual of prayer, petition and peace while moving together in the salat is something a non-Muslim can never really appreciate. Our prophet, peace be upon him, used to lead his wife in salat, even though he lived connected to the mosque. He told us not to make our homes like grave yards. We should offer some of our sunnah prayers at home. A sister gains the most rewards at home, in her room, behind a screen.

kyonki jab sitare chamakte hein ,
To samajh lo yahi.....

Once upon a barren moor

There dwelt a bear, also a boar.
The bear could not bear the boar.
The boar thought the bear a bore.
At last the bear could bear no more
Of that boar that bored him on the moor,
And so one morn he bored the boar--
That boar will bore the bear no more.

and two we find before.
We stand behind before we find,
what those behind be for.

Sarah saw a shot-silk sash shop full of shot-silk sashes
as the sunshine shone on the side of the shot-silk sash shop.

Betty and Bob brought back blue balloons from the big bazaar.

If one doctor doctors another doctor, does the doctor

who doctors the doctor doctor the doctor the way the doctor he is doctoring doctors?
Or does he doctor
the doctor the way the doctor who doctors doctors?

I never felt a piece of felt
which felt as fine as that felt felt,
when first I felt that felt hat's felt.

How many cans can a cannibal nibble, if a cannibal can nibble cans?
A cannibal can nibble all the cans he can nibble, if a cannibal can nibble cans.

Faithful friends freely forgive.

Mr. See and Mr. Sore were old friends. See owned a saw and Sore owned a seesaw. Now See's saw sawed Sore's seesaw before Sore saw See, which made Sore sore with See. Had Sore seen See's saw before See's saw sawed Sore's seesaw, then See's saw would not have sawed Sore's seesaw . But See saw Sore and Sore's seesaw before Sore saw See's saw; so you see how See's saw could saw Sore's seesaw. It was a shame to see Sore so sore with See, just because See's saw sawed Sore's seesaw.
