Dara Shukoh was a more studious Prince who studied Sufism, the Rigveda and Vedanta. However, he was less successful in the military sphere due to a lack of experience. Unfortunately due to a lack of critical reading Dara is either considered a Murtad (apostate) or a Prince devoid of capability, both that are incorrect & fanned by popular narratives.
"When the chosen Prophet ﷺ would go to battle against the unbelievers & the army of Islam suffered losses, the literalist scholars would say "this is a lesson in fortitude". But what need does the khātim an-nabīyīn (seal of the Prophets) have of lessons"?
- Qadri Dara Shukoh, letter dated 1655.
